Recorded at the legendary Ridge Farm Studios in Hampshire in 1981; Brian's newly composed song features his friend Clive Roberts on bottleneck guitar, as well as Peter Stroud on string bass. Brian is still in fine voice and stands at a crossroads. There is hope in this song. "Hope's just a word that maybe you said, and maybe you heard, on some windy corner, 'round a wide angled curve, but that'...

In one of his earliest recordings, Brian Holmes performs for the kitchen's occupants at Rushmere, the home of sculptor David Wynne. In the room were David and his wife Gilli, their son Johnny and friend Mick. It was the day after Brian's 23rd birthday and the improvised music showcases an embryonic version of his masterpiece instrumental, 'Buster Keaton On The Great Western'. If there is a heav...

To say he was truly astonished when the entire audience joined in and sang along, would be an understatement. It seems he ...

Everyone that knew Brian remembers him picking up the guitar and just...playing. This was recorded in late summer 1975 in Cromwell Road, Wimbledon in the house where Brian was living at the time. I found myself walking there recently and shot some random scenes. Brian's improvisations are far superior to mine!

    Unfortunately by this time Peter had lost it completely he was reduced to ‘playing’ acoustic rhythm guitar while nigel was playing all lead parts including albatross o well etc he was taken advantage of in my opinion no offence please in my opinion, a court order was later taken out against Nigel that stated he kept away from and didn’t contact Peter by Peter’s people sad business indeed!.

    • @MrJameswingham
      @MrJameswingham Рік тому

      The acoustic Albatross was Nigel's idea. He wanted equal billing. After Splinter Group, Peter went to Sweden, where he felt safer. He performed Albatross with a sympathetic band on live Belgian TV around that time. I post link below... I did hear from someone involved exactly why the court order was put in place. Very unpleasant.... Peter's last band allowed him to play solos and he did so pretty well. ua-cam.com/video/bW-ClSr3TwE/v-deo.html&ab_channel=andlinux

    I am proud to be Ghanaian. After Jacob Sam learnt to play the guitar, thanks to the Liberian Kru man, Jacob Sam developed his guitar style from the two finger technique of playing the seprewa, a traditional Ghanaian harp-lute. So highlife/palm wine music doesn't come from Liberia like some people like to believe. Instead, it comes from the two-finger Seprewa technique. That's why we as Ghanaians can play highlife music without guitars nor modern western drums. Give us a seprewa, gongons, some traditional drums and xylophone, and we'll make highlife for you sharp!!! An example seen at 0:07 If Jacob really stole his style from the Kru man, then where are the Liberian palm wine/highlife legends that the rest of Africa never heard of? On the other hand, Ghana has numerous highlife icons. The guitar is not indigenous to Ghana, but palm wine music came from the two finger technique of playing the Seprewa Ghanaian harp-lute. HIGHLIFE IS INDIGENOUS TO GHANA 🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭

      @@Korvah Name one Liberian artist that is widely known outside Liberia. Liberians only get credit for coining the term "palm wine music" to classify songs that people danced to while they drunk palm-wine at the bar. No one ever said, "let us learn to play like the Liberians". Even Jacob Sam who learnt to play the European guitar from a Liberian never recorded a Liberian style music. He went the traditional Ghanaian route with the Seprewa style. Get that fact into your empty head.

    I'm sorry, but after all these years of only seeing this man in guitar magazines, in B&W articles, and reading about his comeback, I get the feeling that most people today saying they love his music are just jumping the bandwagon. It's like they ran out of everybody else, and Green died, so it's 'let's jump on him.'
